Workshop B
Although many Content Creators produce tutorials in the hopes of an audience being inspired and building the projects showcased in the videos, the truth is consuming these videos has traditionally been a passive experience. Adding interactive elements to videos can change that. Whether letting the audience see different methods of completing a task by letting them choose which method they would like to see (ex. Power tools vs hand tools), or even something as simple as different ways to place or decorate a project once it’s done, can add interactivity to an otherwise passive video. Within an interactive experience, the audience is more engaged with the content, talk about it more, re-watching it to see the other options, as well as remember the experience more of consuming the interactive content. Like choose-your-own-adventure in digital form, the options and arcs of content can be as simple or complex an experience as a Content Creator wants to make it, and allows more elements of storytelling to the making process. My talk will combine interactive elements (reinforcing the topic), storytelling, audio-visuals, and possibly a few dad jokes. I will also breakdown the process of putting an interactive video together. These will set the stage for a call to action for Makers to rethink their content and consider adding interactive elements to their workflow to help breath new life into their videos Key messages: Interactive content allows more audience engagement, watch time, repeat viewings, and rememberability for your content. Interactivity helps with community building within your audience Inactivity helps increase conversion rates
